Hi, I'm Ms. Summer
I love teaching. As the picture above states, teaching is poetry. It is the use of devices and words to capture the heart and mind of a student. To teach is to connect with another and spark that desire to learn. In line with the mission of our school, I care not only about the intellect and creativity of every student, but about the character being developed.
Teaching is simply magical and I am so honored to be your child's teacher this year.
A little about me: I have been an educator for over 20 years -- teaching, creating curriculum, training teachers on effective classroom management, differentiation of curriculum and on gifted and special education. I have been an educational consultant and have created programs to bridge the educational gap between under-served student populations and others. I have taught many different ages from Preschool to Adult and have loved teaching students in the fields of science and math, language arts, history, gifted and special education, theater and music (I served as choir teacher at Eldorado Emerson years ago).
I have a Masters in Education from Pepperdine University where I emphasized in psychology, with a special interest in behavior modification and curriculum development. I also hold a Masters in Divinity from Claremont School of Theology where I had a particular interest in multiculturalism and religious experiences across cultures. With this degree, I have served as a religious educator and have made various presentations in multiculturalism to medical and religious professionals in various settings. As a young college student, I attended the University of California, Irvine and received a bachelors in Social Ecology, emphasizing in Social Psychology. I also have a Montessori Credential in Early Childhood Education. In my spare time, I love spending time with family, traveling, getting outdoors, doing yoga and meditation, reading, writing, playing music, singing and dancing.
I have been honored to have published a chapter in Centering: Navigating Race, Authenticity and Power in Ministry (Skinner House, 2017) and regularly publish for online journals and blogs on spirituality. Each year I enjoy participating in NANOWRIMO (National Novel Writing Month) to hone my skills in completing a first draft of a novel in 30 days. This can be a wonderful exercise in perseverance and the importance of actually writing something every day if you want to be a writer. I am proud to say that I have been able to complete this 30 day challenge at least once (not an easy feat)! Understanding the importance of writing and communicating effectively, I will be requiring that students write every day. Writing well is a skill that, not only prepares students for college and beyond, but translates across disciplines from language arts to science.
I can relate to the many challenges and benefits of being a parent. Not only are we tasked with getting our children to school, but providing them with a school that will meet their educational needs and lead them to success. I believe that your choice to have your child attend Eldorado Emerson is one of the best choices. I have been a parent of a student at Eldorado Emerson since my son was in 3rd grade. He is currently a junior. We love Eldorado Emerson and find the staff and faculty to be supportive and caring with much expertise in their fields. I, truly, think you will be happy with your choice to send your student to this beautiful school which cultivates the whole child.

Here is to a successful year with your child learning a lot and loving school!
